An iPhone and an Android phone, one baby monitor
Most households have both. Moonside pairs them in any combination: an old Android phone in the nursery and your iPhone in your pocket, or the other way round. One purchase covers the pair, because the Baby phone is free whatever it runs.

What is the same on both
- Pairing by QR code or 8-character code, with no account on either side.
- Live, end-to-end encrypted audio over Wi-Fi or mobile data, with the screen locked or the app in the background.
- The alarm when the connection to the Baby phone is lost, the low-battery warning and the loud-sound alert with three sensitivity levels.
- Talk to Baby, recorded messages, and white noise, ocean waves or a music box on the Baby phone.
- Mute, Hear Everything, the level meter and the history of the night.
- More than one Parent phone at the same time, and switching a phone between Baby and Parent.
What differs
| Feature | iPhone and iPad | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Naming the sound (crying, coughing, fussing) and keeping a short clip to play back | Yes, when the Baby device is an iPhone or iPad. Clips stay on your own devices and are deleted after 36 hours. | No. With an Android phone in the nursery, the history records that a loud sound happened and when. |
| Listening status outside the app | Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, a Home Screen widget, and an Apple Watch app for the status and the latest sound alert. | An ongoing notification while Moonside is listening; it goes away when you stop. |
| Staying alive overnight | Handled by iOS; alerts are time-sensitive, so they break through a sleep focus. | Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery. Moonside asks to be left out of battery optimisation when it starts; allowing that keeps it running until morning. |
| Sharing the purchase | Family Sharing covers your household. | The purchase belongs to the Google account that bought it. |
One purchase, whichever way round
Moonside charges only the Parent phone, once. The Baby phone is free on iPhone, iPad and Android. So an Android phone in the nursery with an iPhone as the Parent phone is one purchase of €5.99, and the same pair the other way round is one purchase too. Apps that sell a licence per platform need two purchases for a mixed pair. See the comparison with Baby Monitor 3G.
Which phone should be the Baby phone?
The one you use least. The Baby phone only needs a working microphone, a charger and a network connection, and it stays plugged in all night. If you have the choice, an iPhone or iPad in the nursery adds the sound naming and the clips. The Parent phone is the one you carry, whichever that is.
