A baby monitor that is already in your bag

A hotel room, a holiday home, a weekend at friends. Moonside needs two phones and a charger, nothing more to pack, and it works wherever both phones have a network connection.

Why it suits travelling

Before the first night away

  1. Pair at home and try a night

Pair the two phones at home and run a full night with the Baby phone in the nursery. The first 3 days are free for exactly this. A monitor you have not tested is one more unknown in a strange room.

  2. Check the data plan

A whole night of live audio is in the order of 170 MB with the normal filter and about 460 MB with Hear Everything, measured on our relay. On a hotel Wi-Fi that is nothing; on a metered mobile plan abroad it is worth knowing.

  3. Bring the charger for the Baby phone

Monitoring all night drains a battery. Moonside warns you when the Baby phone's battery runs low, but a plugged-in phone never gets there.

  4. Allow Moonside to run in the background

On Android, let the app out of battery optimisation when it asks. On iPhone, allow notifications so the alarm reaches you.

  5. Test the alarm once

Switch the Baby phone to flight mode for a minute: the Parent phone should alarm within about half a minute and reconnect when you switch it back.

Where parents use it

Moonside works at any distance as long as both phones have a connection, but it is a baby monitor, not a babysitter. Stay within reach, as you would with any monitor. Moonside is not a medical device and does not replace adult supervision.

Abroad

Moonside has no idea which country it is in, and does not care. The two phones find each other through a small service we run, connect directly when the networks allow it, and use our relay when they do not. Nothing has to be configured for a different country, and the audio stays encrypted end to end on every route.
