One payment. The Baby phone is free. No subscription.
A baby monitor is needed for a couple of years, and running this one costs us almost nothing: there are no accounts to host and no audio we could store. Charging rent for that would be hard to justify, so we don't.
The Baby phone
The phone in the nursery never costs anything, ever. Usually it is an old handset that is not signed in to anyone's store account, and charging for it would be friction at the worst possible moment.
The Parent phone
Free for the first 3 days after you pair. Then a single purchase on the phone you listen with: €5.99 in euro countries, $5.99 in the United States, £4.99 in the United Kingdom. Elsewhere the App Store or Google Play shows the price in your own currency.
What the one payment means
- Not a subscription. There is nothing to cancel and nothing that renews.
- Not per child. A second baby, or a second nursery, costs nothing extra.
- Not per platform. An Android phone in the nursery and an iPhone as the Parent phone, or the other way round, is one purchase: the Baby phone is free whatever it runs.
- Restore purchase is in Settings. On iPhone, Family Sharing covers your household.
- Every feature is included. The alarm, the alerts, talk-back, soothing sounds, the Live Activity and the Watch app are all part of the one purchase; nothing is held back for a higher tier.
The free trial
The 3 days start when the two phones are first paired, not when the app is installed, so you do not spend the trial while you look for your old handset and a charger. The trial is there to check that Moonside works on your own phones and your own network, through a real night, before you pay. A Parent phone never goes quiet unannounced: the app tells you the evening before the trial ends.
Two parents, two Parent phones?
More than one Parent phone can listen at the same time. The purchase belongs to the store account of the phone that bought it. On iPhone, Apple's Family Sharing extends it to the other iPhones in your family group. A Parent phone on a different store account, for example an Android phone next to an iPhone, needs its own unlock. The Baby phone is free in every case.
Compared with a hardware monitor
A dedicated audio baby monitor costs from a few tens of euros and one more charger, one more thing to pack, and a range that ends at the garden fence.
